ATTENTION PARENTS: LCA WILL CLOSE AT 12:00 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2018 FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. ALL CHILDREN MUST BE PICKED UP AT 12:00 P.M. THAT DAY. LCA WILL REOPEN MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2018.
We hold that Christian education is a mandate from God for the family (Matthew 28:18-20). Because of Scripture verses like Proverbs 19:27,22:6, Deuteronomy 6:5-9, and Colossians 2:8, we feel that we must provide an atmosphere more conducive to the precepts of the Bible.
Lighthouse Christian Academy is fully accredited with the American Association of Christian Schools and uses a traditional approach to educating students, using the A BEKA curriculum from Pensacola, Florida for all of its classes; 2 Year olds (Pre K) through the 8th grade. The A BEKA curriculum is one of the most used curriculums in Christian Schools throughout the world. It is both challenging and practical for students preparing for future educational endeavors. In additon to sound academics, students have daily Bible classes and weekly chapel services. Students in grades K-5 through 8th grade are tested each year with the Iowa Assessment Achievement Test and Cognitive Ability Test. The Iowa Assessment is a nationally recognized standardized test that compares academic achievement of students throughout the United States, private and public.
LCA operates with a traditional philosophy towards education for children two years old through the 8h grade. By
traditional education, we hold:
* That the teacher is in charge of the classroom.
* That the teacher is responsible for providing a structured atmosphere
of order in which the students will learn.
* That homework is assigned regularly and completed on time.
* That our instruction is God-centered, teaching spiritual truths, morality, and patriotism.
* That reading is taught by phonics.
* That the teacher is professional in manner, but servant- minded.
* That Biblical principles are not obsolete or outdated.
* That God's Word is truth.
Students at Lighthouse Christian Academy enjoy a wide variety of extracurricular activities throughout the year. All students ages 4 through elementary grades interested in sports may participate in Upward Basketball, and Cheerleading. Participation in AYSO and Upward sports is open to all students regardless of where they attend school.
Middle School / Junior High students enrolled at LCA may compete in basketball, volleyball, soccer, and cheerleading in our Christian School Association.
Music instruction is available for students interested in band and choral. Elementary and Jr High students compete annually in the Alabama Christian Education Association Fine Arts competition, in the areas of art, music, choral, academics and Bible.
