Lighthouse Christian Academy

History

Lighthouse Christian Academy opened its doors in 1987 under the leadership of Dr. Mickey A. Kirkland and his wife Cathy. The school began at the request of the members of Lighthouse Church who were seeking an alternative to public education for their children. With a staff of 16 teachers and an enrollment of 83 students at the end of its first year of operation, Lighthouse Christian Academy was birthed, operating in the Lighthouse Church facility. From humble beginnings, the school has grown to its present staffing of 24 faculty members and 240 students, housed in it’s own educational building and gymnasium.

Lighthouse Christian Academy offers a well rounded; Bible based education that has helped to prepare its graduates for college careers, military service, and general occupation specialties. Both general and college preparatory courses of study are available for students to pursue at Lighthouse Christian Academy. Graduates have been accepted at and graduated from major universities within and out of the state of Alabama.

The school from its conception has been grounded in solid Biblical principles that promote hard work, honesty, character, cooperation, and respect for authority, high moral standards and self-esteem. Added to this firm foundation are Godly qualified teachers, who teach their children the finest most widely used Christian Curriculums in the world today. The ABEKA, Bob Jones Press, and Accelerated Christian Education curriculums complement this solid academic setting, which emphasizes practicality for the student. This is evident by Achievement test scores well above the national average and college placement scores.

The Lighthouse Christian Academy campus is located in East Montgomery, in the middle of the fastest growing part of the city, with new home construction exploding all around us. We have built twice within the last 6 years to accommodate the rapid population growth of our area as parents in this city and particularly in this area seek educational alternatives for their children.

Lighthouse Christian Academy is approaching its maximum capacity and is limited only by its facilities. The school has not only had steady growth since it’s opening in 1987, but has established an excellent reputation for its academics and Christian environment. We invite you to come see history in the making as we strive to serve Jesus Christ and our community.

Philosophy of Education

LCA operates with a traditional philosophy towards education. By traditional education we hold:

  • That the teacher is in charge of the classroom.
  • That the teacher is responsible for providing a structured atmosphere of order in which the students will learn.
  • That homework is assigned regularly and completed on time.
  • That our instruction is God centered, teaching spiritual truths, morality and patriotism.
  • That reading is taught by phonics.
  • That the teacher is professional in manner but servant-minded.
  • That Biblical principles are not obsolete or outdated.
  • That God’s Word is truth.

We hold that Christian education is a mandate from God for the family (Matthew 28:18-20). Because of Scripture verses like Proverbs 19:27, 22:6, Deuteronomy 6:5-9, and Colossians 2:8, we feel that we must provide an atmosphere more conducive to the precepts of the Bible.

Spiritual Objectives

  • To teach that God is the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe.
  • To teach that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to earth to die for our sins.
  • To lead each student to personal acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior.
  • To teach that the Bible is the only Word of God and is practical and important.
  • To teach the application of Biblical ethics of morality in every part of daily life.
  • To teach the student to manifest fairness, courtesy, kindness, and respect to their elders.
  • To teach the student to apply themselves to their work in order to fulfill their various responsibilities.
  • To teach the student to think for himself and to stand up for his personal conviction in the face of peer pressure and opposition.
  • To teach the student to work independently and cooperatively.
  • To relate various subject matter areas to the truth of the Bible.
  • To teach the knowledge and skills required for future study or occupational competence.
  • To teach our students to love our American Heritage and to recognize the current problems facing the country.
  • To teach the students the importance of the family and that their parents should be honored.
